bento 107 – boy onigiri and snow princess

i made a boy onigiri for the first time! i steamed left over rice and made it into a rice ball with a round mold. am quite happy with the result. =)

in this bento – steamed seaweed chicken , a slice of apple (made into a bunny, which s grumbled yet again!) and boy onigiri topped with pork floss as hair (too much!).   i like to ‘steam’ foods a lot.  it’s a simple way to cook, i.e., all in one pot , fast and healthier too. all the factors needed for an express bento!

this is my gal’s, she didn’t like to eat rice as snacks, so no girl onigiri  for her .

she had chicken seaweed, grapes and 2 fish balls, made into a little princess. she said later that this looked like a snowman! i corrected her, a snow princess it is! 😉

i didn’t prepare bento for myself  as i had a luncheon meeting today.

update: linked this post to shannon’s what’s for lunch. check out other submissions here – http://bentolunch.blogspot.com/search/label/what%27s%20for%20lunch%20wednesday

bento 51 – chicky n lil’ bunny

Wow! 51st bento. Another milestone =)

My bento theme for the next few days would be little chicks and bunnies as easter is nearing. I have copied and sketched some drafts for reference. Hope that they will turn out nice and cute! 😀

s insisted that i remove the black sesame ‘eyelashes’. he didn’t want a girl chick. lol! btw, chicky is holding an easter egg ( half quail egg). this is a butter-porkfloss bread.

this is k’s. nutella bread with chicky and bunny.

Bento 43- pork floss sandwich

I wanted to prepare a super quick sandwich for the kids so I have time to add water to the fish tank and change lionel’s, the rabbit, bedding.

Only managed to complete task one. The bedding will have to wait till evening, after work.

Update: not a good idea to use too much coloured sprinkles as they melted and turned ‘goey’.

Karianne’s first

Karianne made her first bread sandwich at home.(I think she also made some during nursery school), and she chose a bunny cutter. Not kitty 😦

She decorated carefully and promptly ate it. Nice, she said. Haha…

I didn’t allow Sean to make his because he was still doing his homework. Promised him that he could do that the next day.

bento 42 – kitty and gang

Prepared the sandwiches the night before. Spent at least 2 hours to painstakingly ’embroidery’ kitty n gang nose and eyes, etc

Quite happy with the result of using the rice moulds to cut bread. Yes, I found the packet of coloured sugar confetti.

Sean’s was made with the leftovers bread and decorated as mini cakes.

bento 40- bread with pork floss

Kept some of yesterday’s dinner dishes for today’s bento. Added some tomatoes and brocolli for colours. Experimented with normal rice to make a bear onigiri. Hey, the normal rice stuck together! Even after a night in frigde and later steamed. Ok, no need to cook sushi rice, just use leftover rice for kids cute onigiri.

Prepared simple porkfloss sandwichesfor the kids. Testing new designs / cartoon copied from Internet. Sean’s was a cat but both kids decided that it was a tiger, so tiger it is. Sean asked why the tiger had 3 legs! O_o !$#

I wanted to sprinkle some colourful flower shaped confetti ? on Karianne’s bread but ran out of time, which also explained why my poor bear onigiri had no eyes and nose!

Actually I tried looking for the confetti but cannot find it. Just cannot recall where I kept it!! Argh…

bento 37 – noodle and pork floss bread

S requested for noodle again.

Made simple noodle bento with egg and fishcake. Egg was a bit too soft. Silly me, I forgot to pour the sauce to the noodle, and knowing my son, he would probably finished the hard and dry noodle. ( unlike k. She would return the food and complaint not nice).

Kung Kung offered to take the sauce to s’s school, I wanted to do just that but was late for work..:D

There was some miscommunication, s drank the sauce thinking it was soup! He later called me and said the ‘ soup’ was not nice and tasted like herbal medicine.. Haha…

Simple pork floss and nuttela bread for k and lg.

bento 36 – pork floss fried rice and mini ba chang

Today’s s menu is fried rice. He specially requested for ‘no’ something in it, I,e no garlic and onions when frying.

There’s only a quarter of small bowl of leftover rice, so I used the last piece of bread to compliment his rice snack. Added a milk sweet and a small packet of pillow crackers. Yeah, junk food..

Received a box of 20 mini ba changs (meat dumpling) from a colleague the day before who is leaving. K loves ba chang, so this will be her snack for recess.

Emm, I have not prepared bento for myself for a long time! Should I start next week? I need to achieve my target before jun. 3 kgs! How difficult is that? Veryyy.. 😦
