today’s snack bentos were beef balls udon for s and, cheese sandwich for k.
the caterpillar were beef balls joined with a short trip of spaghetti noodle. those carrot flowers and cucumber were later ‘removed’, i.e. eaten by mom (me!), and there were only 2 beef balls left by the time we packed the lunch box into the school bag. s cannot wait till recess and ate one !! =)
this was my gal’s,
it’s supposed to be a sheep but it looked like a bee, eh? i think it’s the positioning of the head and ear… maybe a little higher would be better. i had intended to put colourful sprinkles on the cheese, but decided not to as the sprinkles colour would ‘run’, replaced the idea with mini carrot flowers.
yes i remembered, it’s time to announce the lucky draw winner! i have not pick the lucky draw winner of the bento gadgets giveaway yet! well, not me per se. i will use the random number generator.
… but before i do that, here are the complete list of the bento gadget facebook fans and blog subscriber lucky nos.
arkonites bento box

fong siew chuen
francheska m sanchez
wong fung ming
i will announce the winning nos in the next post … ooh! it’s as exciting as announcing the contest !! …….=)
as mentioned in my previous post, i am going to prepare bento characters based on the ‘bento t-shirt’ for the next few days.
today’s the lamb,
and this is my interpretation.
in this bento, i cooked the egg white and yolk and separately. used cloud and round (one big and small) cutters to make the lamb. this was an easy charaben.
i spread a thin layer of butter on the top side of bread. my boy thought this was for his sis. yeah, this bento looked a little girlish, dont you think so? =) he insisted that i take the flower away, haha..
this is the mini version for k. her lamb had eye lashes – made with combining a star and circle punched nori.
i prepared a bento for myself too, packed from yesterday’s dinner – sambal ikan bilis (anchovies with onion) and teriyaki chicken. m-i-l steamed it for me this morning. cut mini flowers with the balance egg. one egg, three bentos. not bad eh? the red flower (apple) was recycled from my son’s bento. =) haha… also packed some slices of starfruit, apple and mini tomatoes (not shown) for a ‘balanced’ meal
i missed bentoing and felt a bit ‘rusty’ already. well, kids started school this mon. i am back to bento making again! yeahhh..to that, nayyy.. to waking up early.
here are the two simple charaben buns –
a doggy sausage bun for my boy. face details are drawn with nutella, using a butter knife and toothpick. (apart from some eggs and apples, this is all i have to make a ‘charaben’ snack/ bento that morning.. )
i intended to do a hello kitty (yes, again!) for my gal but whilst peeling the bun’s ‘skin’, i saw a lamb! hmmm… although i luv hello kitty, it’s definitely a better option in the morning rush! no need to cut and paste the six tiny whiskers for the famous cat. haha..
i have so much to share, bento shopping trips in kuala lumpur and more hello kitty stuff.. but so little time. =(
last weekend had been a whirlwind of activities. i will try to sum it up in a short para.
we travelled by car, 300km++ to kuala lumpur (kl), malaysia to attend a good friend’s wedding. whilst there, i had my hair done, rushed to two shops for more bento stuff. well, actually 3, one closed down, what a wasted trip😦 . had lunches with my dad and siblings, celebrated mother’s day/dinner with in-laws and still found time to visit a shopping mall to replenish my cereal health food. all in two short days!
we are going to kl again next week! this time to attend a cousin’s wedding. hmm.. another trip equals more bento stuff? yes! =)
i cooked french toast and mini sausages for the kids yesterday. i had neither time nor energy to make it cute, i just hurriedly packed them into the lunch boxes. so no photos for that uninspired bentos.
after a good night’s rest, we are back to our normal routines. here are today’s quick bentos. ‘omelette’ bears and udon for my boy and another ‘ baa baa ham’ sheep sandwich for my gal.
i cooked the egg white and yoke separately.
i used 2 types of ham to get different colours.
to all who are mothers, here’s wishing you a very happy belated mother’s day! i received these gifts from my kids, sweet.. =)
please look out for tomorrow’s bento. it’s going to be a special belated mother’s day bento dedicated to you, bento-ist mummies!
i wanted to do this last week. well, better late than never!
i packedfruits and veg in the kids bentos even if they don’t like it. no, they have not become omnivorous. (i wish!)
it’s just that the bento photos looked bare and not balanced without some fruits and veg. for now, the fruits and veg are just props! my kids insisted that these be taken out after the photo taking. ;(
the animals are made from fish balls, ham, artificial crab meat. koala is on a bed of fried rice, lamb on nutella spread bread.
both kids said this looked like a little dog! =) it’s a lamb, baa baa not woof woof!! what do you think?
for the first time, my kids tucked me in yesterday. sweet.. =) instead of the usual me kissing them good night, they kissed me good night. my ‘batteries’ were completely flat !
I am fully charged today and getting ready for a super busy weekend with bffs and loved ones. you know who you are ;P.
